Traffic building is nowadays a complex undertaking, requiring a multi-faceted approach. I still believe strongly in focusing primarily on achieving high rankings in the organic (i.e. free) search engine listings.

A fully fledged online marketing campaign will also require deriving traffic from a combination of the following sources:

  • social network sites
  • pod- and vodcasting
  • paid advertising (e.g. banners, pay-per-click)
  • blogging
  • affiliate and referral systems
  • article publication
  • link exchange
  • viral marketing
  • opt-in list building and email

SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMISATION

Many SEO companies will promote their services aggressively by making claims to guarantee "Top 10 rankings in Google". However, even if they do achieve this, the quality of the web "landing" pages that the user in Google is taken to are often so poor that little or no benefit is achieved for the client (i.e. the visitor is not enticed to click further to explore the web site).

The following data shows current rankings in Google for two example client projects, driving high levels of free traffic to these clients' web sites, every month. These are highly competitive search terms otherwise costing hundreds, even thousands of euros per month in pay-per-click advertising.

My priority is to achieve great search engine rankings with landing pages that are also user-friendly and informative. Click on a [+] link to check the current ranking in Google.
